BASEBALL: The Best of the Best

Rob Neyer has an entertaining, debate-starting feature on the all-time greatest players for each major league franchise. He starts with the American League today. I checked out the Yankees' team (which is significantly better than, say, the all-time Devil Rays' team) and agreed with most of what I saw. However, the artificial parameters of exercises like this always amuse me (such as insisting that you can only take one center-fielder, rather than selecting the three best outfielders). If anyone was actually fielding this team, mightn't they take Joe DiMaggio and move Mickey Mantle to left, rather than taking Charlie Keller or Don Baylor?

And, for my money, the second-greatest Yankee is Lou Gehrig, not the Mick.
