In case you missed it, Tony Clark hit a truly mammoth home run in last night’s Mets win at Houston’s Minute Maid Park:

Clark hit a 1-2 breaking ball so hard that it clanked off a huge red sign promoting the 2004 All-Star Game that was hung between two light towers in left field last week.

"That one might have left Yellowstone," Howe said. "They say there's a short porch to left, but no ballpark in America would have held that one."

The ever-modest Clark, who has four home runs in the last three games, said only that he hit the ball well. His teammates differed.

"That was incredible," Cliff Floyd said. "You just don't see balls hit like that."

As always with the Mets, it is best to savor the brief glimmers of positive news whenever they appear.
