WAR/FOOTBALL: Uncommon Sacrifice
I don’t have much time to write, but I would be remiss if I didn’t add my condolences to the family, friends and fans of Pat Tillman, who has been killed in Afghanistan. Both the Crank and Kiner’s Korner previously recognized Tillman’s service and the inspiring example of a multimillionaire athlete freely walking away from pro sports to serve his country and defend freedom as an Army Ranger earning $18,000/year. It is hard to imagine anything more admirable. Michele Catalano, Gregg Easterbrook and Ivan Maisel, among others, have more.
Of course, all of our troops, not just the famous ones, deserve our prayers and concern as they continue to fight and bleed for a better world and the long-term security of a grateful nation.
