POP CULTURE: Farewell, Lennie Briscoe
I’m pretty far behind the pop culture news curve here, but I was saddened to see Jerry Orbach leaving “Law & Order”. He is reportedly leaving to participate in yet another spin-off and will be replaced by Dennis Farina (who is a good actor, but one that, for whatever reason, I’ve never particularly liked).
Anyway, this MSNBC article had a good summary of Orbach’s contributions to the original show, including some of Detective Briscoe’s best one-liners.

Hot damn! I'm a huge Dennis Farina fan! Farina did a good job in the underrated show 'Crime Story' was great as Karen Cisco's father in the terrific film 'Out of Sight', and gave a tremendous performance as Jimmy Serrano in the all-time underappreciated DeNiro film 'Midnight Run'
It's funny, I was just thinking Farina would be good casting to replace Anthony LaPaglia (who's character seems to be written out) in 'Without a Trace.'
It took me a while to warm up to Orbach as a cop and Briscoe's character. But he has really grown on me. Now if the would just get rid of Jesse L. Martin...
"Sidney, have a cream soda...do some f--kin' thing."
Dennis Farina was *oustanding* in the excellent "Crime Story" -- it certainly helped, as it will with "L&O," that he's an ex-cop.
Nice quote from "Midnight Run," Mr. Furious.
Farina's Serrano is probably one of the great film characters of all time. Well, in my worthless opinion anyway...
