BASEBALL: D.C. Bound?
Outside the Beltway has the latest on the Expos and their possible relocation to the Washington D.C./Northern Virginia area. (Via David Pinto).
One question: what would be a good name for the team if they do move to this area? Washington residents appear split over whether the team should be re-named the Senators, in light of the unsuccessful track record of that as a franchise name and the political controversy over D.C.’s lack of senatorial representation. Perhaps they could be the Washington Nationals, which would honor the city’s baseball tradition, skirt the political issue and be all the more appropriate given that they, unlike the earlier Senators, would be a National League team.
I think "Bullets" is available. :-)
There's a petition going around to name them the Washington Grays, after the old Negro League club. Sounds fine to me.
How about the Washington Generals, in honor of the hapless basketball team that's something like 1-12,947-0 against the Harlem Globetrotters? (I guess that could be sort of a tribute to the old Senators at the same time.)
Gee, I don't understand the indecision...just name 'em the "Reagans" and be done with it.
Just Call The team Washington Senators
what the hek is rong with that
the pfrase Washington Grays sounds Stupid
Call the team the Nationals. I believe that was the original name of the team in the early 20th century (remember when the Post Sports section used to refer to the team as the "Nats"?) The Senators was a nick name that stuck after a while.
