WAR: Lessons Unlearned
Matt Yglesias thinks it would be more "environmentally conscious" to surround the Pentagon with "office buildings featuring underground parking garages."

Is it really necessary, 16 years after the first World Trade Center bombing, to explain why underground parking garages at the Pentagon might be a bad idea?
These people don't even understand the lessons from 9/11, you expect them to remember something from 16 years ago?
Never have so many ideas to be paid for by others come from those who have accomplished so little in their own lives....
The idea wasn't green enough anyway. They should bulldoze the parking lots, replace them with fields of hemp, and require all Pentagon workers to bike or walk their way to work.
Heh. I just had a mental image of a general in full dress uniform riding a ten-speed. Ringing one of those bike bells.
The alternative is even more chilling - they do remember the lessons of the past and want them repeated.
steveegg,
If you want to suspend the country's laws and treaties it's a proven winner.
MVH, when I was living in Cambridge I once saw a guy - bearded, bespectacled, middle-aged, presumably a professor - riding a bike wearing a corduroy jacket and smoking a pipe. Now that was a sight.
